6th Annual Book-tique December 11

Looking for a special present?  Shop with Friends this year–Friends of the Howard Lake Library, that is.  On Saturday, December 11 from 10 AM to 1 PM, the Friends will again host their Book-tique in the Howard Lake Library.  This fundraiser features nearly-new gift quality books, an interesting assortment of gift items and of course, our famous beaded book thongs.   Proceeds from this sale will support Friends’ projects and programs.

The library will be decorated in its holiday finest and ready for your shopping pleasure.  Don’t be late–the good stuff goes quickly and remember, most everything is one of a kind, so when it’s gone, it’s gone.

For more information, contact the library at 320.543.2020.

Pumpkin Painting 2010

The Friends of the Howard Lake Library will again be hosting two pumpkin painting sessions.  Both sessions are on Saturday, October 23.  The first is at 9 AM and the second at 10 AM.  For $3 person ( $10 max per family) the painter will receive a pumpkin and paint with cookies and Kool Aid for refreshments.    Even though we use water-based paint, please wear old painting clothes.

Friends and family are invited to watch the artist work.  Coffee and goodies will be available to eat in.

This event will be held in the Howard Lake Community Room (above the library).   Preregistration is suggested.  To sign up or for more information, please stop in or contact the librarians at 320.543.2020.

2010 Summer Reading Program & Party Huge Success

They’re history, but what a time we had: storytimes, programs, prizes and an ending party!  The evening of the celebration party threatened rain, but it stayed away and we enjoyed games on the library square and green space.  The Howard Lake Royalty made an appearance and helped with the games. Thanks, ladies.

The Howard Lake Library staff and the Friends of the Howard Lake Library thank all readers who participated in the 2010 Summer Reading Program.   Keep reading this winter and see you in June 2011 for next summer’s program.

A Doggone Good Time

The Anniversary celebration for R.E.A.D. brought together 4 groups 0f dogs and their handlers, and nearly forty readers plus their parents.  The two hour event on Saturday, September 14th was a success.  The Howard Lake Community Room was abuzz with the sound of young voices taking turns reading to Penny, Sara, Jack & Keira.

There was cake, “puppy chow” and Kool Aid for treats for the humans and all who read received a book to take  home.   A BIG thank you to all who made this event so successful.   A schedule for smaller, more intimate monthly reading sessions will be posted.  Stop at the Howard Lake Library for more information or check back here as the information will be posted as soon as the dates are decided.
