Book-tique 2011

Last year only a few people (including librarian Deb) braved a winter storm to attend the Book-tique, but old man winter stayed away for this year’s sale.  People were waiting for the door to open and the sale to begin.  Quality gifts and a great assortment of books were offered for sale by the Friends of the Howard Lake Library.  Thanks to everyone who attended

Book signing Event a Success

The Friends of the Howard Lake Library hosted over fifty guests at the book signing for “Making Tracks: C.L. Best and the Caterpillar Tractor Co.”  Ed & Sue Claessen, authors of “Making Tracks”, discussed the extensive work involved with going from a concept to a printed book and also signed copies of their book.  The Friends provided the refreshments.

For those interested, the Great River Regional Library system has two copies of “Making Tracks” available in the system.  The link to their website is provided on the left side of the page.

Perfectly Painted Pumpkins

Even the eternal road construction couldn’t keep the artists from the 2011 Friends of the Howard Lake Library Pumpkin Painting event.  During the two sessions, over sixty pumpkins and gourds were decorated. The Howard Lake Royalty painted their own masterpieces while encouraging the young painters. While the paint was drying, the painters enjoyed cookies and KoolAid.

Our thanks to the Untiedt  Vegetable Farm for providing the excellent “canvasses”.

Enjoy some photos of the 2011 event and hope to see you in 2012.

 Making Tracks cover

The Friends of the Howard Lake Library will host a book signing for local authors Ed & Sue Claessen.  This event will be held Sunday, November 6th at 2 PM at the St. Mary’s Parish Center in Waverly, MN.  The Claessen’s book, “Making Tracks: C.L. Best and the Caterpillar Tractor Co.” is the result of over five years of effort.

Refreshments will be served by the Friends. “Making Tracks” will be available for purchase at the event and the authors will custom sign any copies.

Pumpkin Painting on October 22

It’s that  time again. The Friends of the Howard Lake Library will be hosting the Pumpkin Painting event on Saturday, October 22, at the Howard Lake Community Room. There will be two sessions: 9 AM and 10 AM.  As this is a popular event, preregistration is recommended by either stopping at the library or calling 320.543.2020.

The Friends have kept the price the same as last year–$3 each with a maximum of $10 per family.  The painter will receive a pumpkin, paint, cookies and KoolAid and the parents will have a unique hand-painted pumpkin and a paint-free house. Even though the paint is water-based, old painting clothes are suggested.

Family and friends are invited to watch the artists at work. Coffee will be available.

Put us on your calendar and leave the mess to the Friends this year.

Summer Reading Program Partytime

The 2011 GRRL Summer Reading Program is now history and participants celebrated their success on August 18. The road construction hadn’t started yet so the party sponsored by the Friends of the Library was held outside on the library square and greenspace.  Readers and their families enjoyed the evening with games, prizes, Kool-Aid and cookies. Our special guests were the royalty from Howard Lake and Waverly.  Thank you, ladies. You exhibited great skill playing the games.

Thanks for a great summer.  See you next year!  Click on the thumbnails to see the fun.
